Restaurant review: Serai, a new bar by the Olive group

When a brand like Olive brings something new to the capital, you know it’s going to work wonders. After The Grammar Room, the latest addition, Serai, is a culinary cocktail bar that’s been delighting people with some innovative cocktails.

Nibbles

Edamame & Quinoa, agave & chilli coated almonds, local zarai cheese cracker, popcorn queso

Move over G&T, tequila is here to take over this season. Serai’s signature drink is ‘Teq-Tonics – tequila infused with ingredients like pimiento, coffee, strawberry and hibiscus flower and served with tonic. I tried the pimiento one which adds that perfect punch to the drink with its chilli. The cocktail menu is from across the globe but limited. However, a lot of thought has been put behind the drinks and each one is paired with a bite-sized pintxo.

PERU - Passion Fruit & Gondharaj drink

I particularly loved the Burmese Tamarind and Kaffir tequila that came with a mini Tom Yum tart. That combination of tangy tequila worked perfectly. The Preuvian vodka based Passion Fruit & Gondharaj drink is so flavourful because the passion fruit is brought all the way from Kodaikanal. Mixologist Harish Chhimwal has taken care so that there is no compromise with taste. This is served with a miniature Peruvian chilli and cheese frozen sandwich.

Angle Burger

The Angle Burger

The food menu is limited to bar nibbles, but that’s exactly what one needs. Go for the Angle Burger without a thought. True to its name – it comes as a triangle, the patty is made of tiger prawn and it is served with a side of pork skin cracker. It is crisp and crunchy.

Greece- Kumquat & Chilli drink

GREECE - Kumquat & Chilli drink

I have a weakness for truffle so I could not resist the Truffle and Cheese sour dough flat bread which was quite good. Those fond of duck can go for the Beijing Duck sour dough flat bread. If you are bored, pick up the ‘The Deck of Revelations’ card deck and play it with your friends or partner to add yet more punch to the evening.
