Have you ever felt tempted to buy that gorgeous plate you’re being served on at a restaurant? Maybe even the chair if it’s way too comfortable and stylish. Well, at Plum by Bent Chair you don’t need to think twice about it. This is the country’s first retail restaurant that opened its doors in Delhi recently. So you can pretty much buy anything and everything you see there.
The quirky interiors
The interiors are over the top with bold colours and it’s said that it’s ‘India’s most Instagrammable Restaurant’ and I couldn’t agree more. Right from the 12-foot long purple bear at the entrance called ‘Plummy’ (love the name) the roof with planters on it, the bar with the changing colour and wallpaper and each corner with interesting artefacts it is all Insta worthy. The outdoor sedition has a tagline ‘Don’t be glum sugar plum’ and their hashtag “plumazing”.
Smoked Eel Nigri
And when it comes to the food it is a take on modern Pan-Asian food. Chef Sagar Bajaj has used a lot of truffle in the cooking and it works brilliantly. I loved the Edamame and truffle dim sum and the salmon truffle tuna sushi. It may sound a bit strange but the combination worked very well. Don’t skip the roast duck slider and spicy barbeque chicken bao.
Mushroom Bao
They have a very extensive menu so if you are someone who gets confused about what to order just go for the dishes with #plumazing written – it’s the chef’s recommendation. Keep space for dessert and try the Nutella Banana Uramaki which is nothing but banana and nutella sushi with jiggery and seasame.
Smoked Plum Negroni
The cocktails are experimental as well. I love my gin based Elderflower and Blueberries cocktail. I’ve heard that Umetini, which is a Japanese plum liquor mixed with vodka and vermouth, is also quite popular.
But let me caution you about the music. The level is fine at first but then as the night progresses it gets so loud that you can’t hear other people on the table.
Let me just say Plum by Bent Chair is not just about a meal, it’s an experience you’re likely to love and not forget. At least I won’t.
